The Position

Sproule is seeking an energetic, self-motivated Senior Petroleum Engineer to join our global Reservoir Services team based in our Voorburg, Netherlands office. The position provides the opportunity to build upon your engineering and reservoir experience with exposure to a broad range of clients including exploration and production companies, financial institutions, and governments throughout the world. Occasional travel to other Sproule offices, for client meetings, presentations, and conferences may be required.

Responsibilities

The Senior Petroleum Engineer’s responsibilities will include:

  • Working on projects both independently as well as within a multi-disciplinary, geographically dispersed team for a wide variety of international clients.
  • Working in teams with other engineers and geoscientists (with various levels of experience) to complete integrated reservoir studies, reserve and resource evaluations and audits, field development plans, strategic advisory projects, data-room and due diligence mandates.
  • Acting as Project Leader, defining technical project workflows/methods, contributing to project scope definition, planning, and ensuring project timelines and budgets are achieved, while ensuring the quality of technical deliverables to the client.
  • Coaching and mentoring more junior team members.
  • Presenting Sproule’s technical opinions to clients.
  • Representing Sproule in business development visits and meetings.
  • Presenting at conferences and webinars on behalf of Sproule.

Required Technical Qualifications & Experience

  • Engineering degree with a preference towards petroleum and/or reservoir engineering post-secondary.
  • 25+ years of oil and gas reservoir engineering experience, with a significant portion of that time being spent doing reserves and resources evaluations.
  • Minimum 8 years of project management experience including responsibilities related to: client management, project scope, budget, timelines and resources and product or service delivery.
  • Ability to think critically to review data and solve complex reservoir engineering problems.
  • Proficient background in classical reservoir engineering principles and methods, including experience in all the following areas: material balance analysis, decline curve analysis, fluid characterization, SCAL data interpretation, well-test interpretation, well performance, nodal analysis, production analysis, and production forecasting.
  • Proficient experience with dynamic reservoir modelling / numerical reservoir simulation, including the building/upscaling of dynamic models from static models.
  • Proficient experience and strong computer literacy in industry-standard reservoir engineering software, such as Intersect, Eclipse, tNavigator, Petex IPM Suite, Saphir and/or PanSystem, PVTsim, Kappa suite, etc.
  • Knowledgeable in risk assessment and uncertainty analysis.
  • Good understanding of and ability to perform reserve certifications and due diligence exercises.
  • Good understanding of and ability to perform classical EOR screening and simulation studies.
  • Functional understanding of oil and gas upstream field development, including geology, geophysics, petrophysics, reservoir engineering, petroleum engineering, well engineering, and how they are integrated.

Additional Preferred Experience

  • Strong preference for prior experience with CCUS, geothermal, and UGS projects.
  • Prior oil and gas field operations experience.
  • Experience with data analytics.
  • Experience with other industry software such as Value Navigator, Mosaic, or Harmony software.
  • Prior experience in a consulting environment.
