Deborah Jaremko of JWN Energy has summarized a presentation Steven Golko presented to industry in November on the oil and gas opportunity in Western Canada based on findings from Sproule Play Metrics, which shows “Canada’s not a two-trick pony, there is a lot more oil and gas opportunity in Western Canada”.
Not all producers and investors want to tolerate the risk profile that comes with the Montney and Duvernay plays. The Dunvegan and Torquay oil plays and the Spirit River gas play are three plays that Sproule estimates as having drilling and completions economics that are comparable to the Montney and Duvernay.
