The Position

Sproule is seeking an energetic, organized, and hands on Senior Accountant reporting to the Accounting Manager to join our team in the Sproule head office in Calgary. The ideal candidate will become an integral part of our team, someone who is able to communicate effectively while providing support on accounting and tax. They are relationship builders and have a strong work ethic.

This is an office-based position that is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.

Responsibilities

The Senior Accountant responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with all aspects of full-cycle accounting including AP, AR, banking, and fixed assets
  • Providing tax support and assisting with tax provision
  • Researching accounting issues and assist with drafting technical accounting papers
  • Preparing and reviewing account reconciliations with variance analysis
  • Assisting with month/quarter/yearly end close process
  • Assisting with year-end audit and tax returns preparation
  • Assisting with preparation of note disclosures and consolidated financial statements
  • Coordinating review and recording of related party and intercompany balances
  • Documenting processes and participating in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Assisting with ad-hoc analysis and special projects

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional CPA designation, public accounting firm experience preferred
  • IFRS experience and knowledge
  • Consolidation experience in a complex corporate structure
  • Knowledge on tax and international tax exposure an asset
  • Proficiency with MS Office: Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a senior accountant role
  • International accounting experience an asset

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels in the organization
  • Excellent organizational skills in order to manage multiple deadlines and competing tasks in a fast-paced environment
